Description of Here Am I – 11 x 14 Giclee

Along the road through Virginia, the fog and the trees connected with me during my many drives to Maryland during the final days of my fathers life. I was all alone On those beautiful drives and on foggy mornings those trees were beautiful silhouettes the great smoky mountains. As spring yielded to summer and summer to fall, the trees turned to the most glorious colors and the trees would differentiate itself by their lovely colors. The lone ones seemed to cry out – “Here am I”.  I was just starting to use color and pencils and knew that I had to depict one of those mornings and had the perfect media and plan.

Though the object upon the onset of the drawing was not to achieve an Asian or Sumi feel, somehow the art had a mind of its own!

The background mountain “wash” were created with a 4B pencil while the foreground was an actual ink wash.
The black details were traditional pen and ink. The final “pop” of color utilized a speedball pen to “flash” in white the tree leaves in preparation for the final hit of colored red ink.
